Local artist Ninnette Comito has commissioned a piece for Harvey Water as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan depicting the water ways and seasons of the Noongar people that Harvey Water as a Cooperative relies so heavily on. We would like the thank Ninnette for all her efforts in creating this amazing piece and look forward to working with her in the future.
The Artwork - “Survival”
This design represents the Noongar six seasons. The colours of the landscape tell us what part of the year we are in and what is happening to the land, animals, plants, and the water. My people, the First Nations have lived and survived off the land for many years by living alongside the water. The symbols in this design represent the water ways that surrounds our local community. People are also represented as they feed near and in the waterways. Campsites are represented as families gather together sharing culture and language.
